Hello, and welcome to Fairy Whispering, I’m Claire Casely your host. Before I introduce my guest for this episode, some event news!
This Halloween evening, 8pm UK time, I am sharing a spooky online talk, ‘The Hairy, the Howling, and the Haunted’ about wild men, werewolves, and other supernatural furry encounters in the wilds of England’s Westcountry, for Edgeways. You will need to join the group to get the Zoom link for the talk from the organiser - S J Farrer.
If you can’t make it this Saturday, I am repeating the same talk for The Folk Preservation Society on Thursday 19th November. You can sign up directly for this talk using the Zoom link. Enter your details and email address, and you will receive the link for the talk!

Also, a reminder that if you enjoy this podcast and all things fairy, then you’ll probably enjoy my books ‘The Heart of Pixieland: West-Country Faeries & Their Haunts, Vol I & II’. With a foreword by the awesome Joshua Cutchin and packed with pixie tales, encounters, customs, and their places, they’ll also make an ideal Christmas gift for yourself or a fairy-enthusiast friend!

My guest for this episode is Sally, who joins me from East Sussex to share a lifetime of unusual and magical encounters. From childhood memories of her grandmother Kitty’s garden, Sally’s connection with nature and the fairy world has grown through drumming, Reiki, and a deep sensitivity to the woods. Sally has permitted me to share her drawings of the beings we discuss.

Sally recounts seeing a fairy looking back at her from a bus window, hearing a gnome muttering in her garden, and glimpsing a crowned young being she calls the Elven Boy. She also describes a powerful encounter on woodland stepping stones, where an unseen presence seemed to help her breathe and surrounded her with a wave of love, as well as the mysterious Queen of the Woods and other figures she has seen among the trees.
We talk about the healing power of nature, the importance of recording experiences, and how approaching the woods with a childlike sense of wonder may help us notice what is usually unseen. Sally’s story is a beautiful reminder to trust what we perceive, stay open to the mysteries around us, and meet the natural world with kindness and playfulness.
To catch a fairy whisper, you have to listen closely, listen with me...
